# Glossary

## Catalog
* **Category**: The top-level grouping for items (e.g. "Men", "Women").
* **Subcategory**: The second-level, final grouping for items (e.g. "Shirts", "Shoes"). Always belongs to exactly one Category.
* **Brand**: The manufacturer or label of a product. 
* **Product**: A specific item for sale. Belongs to exactly one Subcategory and exactly one Brand. Does not belong directly to a parent Category.

## Filtering
* **Product Filter**: The ability to restrict a list of products by their assigned Brand, Subcategory, or inferred parent Category.
